In definite regards to what KitsuNeko has brought up, considering those of the cat category, what exactly would we earn instead of more tails. Its from an interesting point of view that stripes could be earned instead, but I'm merely curious as to what other cats such as lions, tigers, (no bears), oh no, would earn? From what i could gather, they wouldn't exactly gain anything, but they would gather something. Odd way of interpreting it yes, but i can't quite put my finger upon it. Its like i know the answer, but then again, the answer is always fleeting. So i ask you, what would "big cats" earn? or just felines in general?

There are two cat-type yokai cats I know of.
The Nekomata, cats with a forked tail and some power over the dead, they don't grow tails. Instead, their single tail splits into two. For this reason, in the past, the nihonjin used to cut their cat's tail, to prevent the spliting from occurring.

The Bakeneko, huge cat demons with, if I remember well, six fingers on their forepaws. Those are the least common and the cause for it remains unknown for me.

I've heard of them both before and have yet to encounter such. I wonder how the bakeneko were formed in the first place? But this is an overall interesting way, people view the meaning of tails on cats, does it not? I'm pretty sure there are other places as well with such a similar story even if not interconnected. :3 Still, its a pretty debatable subject. Can't wait to find out more.  :D

Mabey its stripes and or spots? cause believe it or not lions have spots XD though I guess it depends on the species of big cats I mean its still arguable weather kitsune's are descended from dogs or descended from cats (I htink their their own species) also for lions, lions tend to battle it out to see who's stronger so mabey they dont need something physically to show that they are more powerful you already know who is by the 'alphas' as they are the most powerful of their pride. plus theirs arguments on lions too, a few years ago people started saying lions are more related to dogs then cats (wtf!!! ><)

and tigers you cant really compare them to each other much either cause their a mostly solitary breed same with leopards and panthers (possibly cheetas too) they normally support their young till their old enough then go off on their own to be solitary again (in nature anyways) though I did watch an interesting documentary where they tested the dna of cats and they all originated from Egypt, so mabey we should look at Egyptian myths on cats that would probably help us more, though for big cats I dont know cause big cats are practically everywhere (or used to be) even the US have them....I wanna look up more on the US's big cats now, cause out of all the big cats Ive studied I havnt studied the US's big cats...0_o shocking... lol

Thats actually a very interesting deduction because i haven't really done that either, I've always studied big cats elsewhere but never here as well. :D Its weird that most cats originated from egypt, and their DNA also must be muddied isn't it? All i have to say is, everything is weird concerning DNA, heritages, and different things. XD confusing iddn't it? AT this point in time, I've decided not to really take on a form or a certain breed, but I'm merely just a "feline" for now, its much easier. :P

I know that in Nevada, there's Mountain Lions (Yeah, no lie, idiotic morons for continuing to build closer to the mountains and wonder why their five thousand dollar dog, or something, get's eaten or a child gets mauled...) I'm sure that there's more too. But that's the only big cat I can think of off the top of my head in the US.

Now I kind of want to look up some Egyptian mythology...I already know a little bit from a book my mom used to have before she ruined it by keeping it where racoons or rats can eat it in storage. But I'll probably do that later on though.

Well, vulpines are as definitely on the canine branch of the carnivora tree as hyenas are on the feline. That's a fact. They merely did not move away so far from their common ancestor miacis, an arboreal small solitary predator.
     Nerdy
Let me look for a taxonomic chart on that real quick.
    ...
    Found it!

     :P
Also, did you know that lions and tigers can breed ligers?

    Yeah, it looks somewhat odd.
    May be a fake pic.

Too bad they are born sterile. Ligers cannot reproduce. However, if they did, I wonder what effect they would have on an ecosystem. O.o
