If the board admins would approve, I volunteer to hold an offline backup archive of this forum for disaster preparation!

A copy of the current version of the board software, and a zipped copy of the database would be all that is required. Maybe an update every three months or so to make sure our data is backed up in more than one place.

I could also image the site on my own with the permission of the admins. But I will wait until the idea is approved before I do so.

It is mostly for my own selfish reasons that I don't want to lose any of the important things (important to me anyway) that I have written here, but also for the fact that a great many things said here cover almost every topic, and it would be a shame for it to go into the great void.

Not that I am saying that anything is going to happen, but I like to be prepared.

The problem is, if I understand correctly, that the forum software uses one big database for everything. So the database containing the posts... also contains all the hashed passwords, private messages and member profiles. For obvious reasons they can't distribute that.

I was looking up as I was walking home and just realized how... huge everything is, everything but us, we're so small. But yet... I could almost feel it, the spark of life, the thread of fate, a bit of electric sizzle in the stars. I was reminded of death, and thereby of life. I felt alive. I think maybe, if I can just feel that for a moment every now and then, anything else that happens to me is O.K.

Could they strip the user tables? Or simply only include the posts table?

    No worries if not though.
