There are a lot of things in Japanese mythos that relate to kitsune. Recently I've been reading a lot about kitsune-mochi/kitsune-tsukai as well as tsukimono-suji. Unfortunately, most of the articles I find are written in Japanese, so they take a little long for me to read. However, I've found them all very interesting.

I was wondering about all your thoughts regarding kitsune-mochi/tsukimono-suji, and if you could think of anything else that interacts with kitsune or is involved with them in some way?

Simple google search gives this link, though not really much about kitsune-mochi on it.

I'd say posession is what you make of it.
If there's spirits with you you might as well try to get along and understand one another.

Oh yeah, and I haven't really heard of something like "tsukimono-suji" before, what would that be?

I've done a lot of research on the two things I brought up, so I'll fill you in Kira.

tsukimono-suji are families that are thought to harbor foxes. If the foxes are well taken care of, the family has good luck. However, a family's status as tsukimono-suji is public knowledge, and as such, members of the family are shunned. It's nearly impossible to get married if you're a member of such a family because the status of tsukimono-suji is considered contagious.

Meh, I couldn't imagine why they'd be shunned.
I mean, like "Watch out, they're lucky! Stay away from them!"?
That does not make very much sense....

You have to realize, foxes were looked upon with fear because of their ability to possess individuals. It was believed that being around the family would lead to being plagued by those dangerous kitsune... and who would want that? People who dealt with kitsune were the equivalent to witches in Salem, just more feared and mysterious - so less burning at the steak.

I might steal something for myself, but I'd imagine it's a nasty kitsune who gives a stolen gift.

Unless of course, both the steal-ee and the recipient of the gift needed a lesson.
