Who here knows about her? What you know? What you feel toward her? Good or bad? Well, let's begin the topic based on these questions...

Tamamo no Mae was a kitsune in Japanese mythology.  Beautiful, and wise she was at times regarded as the most lovely and smart woman in all of Japan.  Every one in the imperial court loved her and the Emperor Konoe fell in love with her as well.  Later he grew ill under mysterious circumstances and Tamamo no Mae was blamed for his illness because people suspected she was an evil nine tailed kitsune  After that she ran away from the court and was soon hunted down and killed by Miura no suke.
Apart from that Tamamo no Mae has also been the subject of several poems and plays.

Thats so sad... reading that post, I would so much tend to say I would find her someone very nice to be with so I mostly feel warm feemings for her, mainly at the thought of a beautiful magical kitsune like that, if she was real. Probably she didn't kill anyone, or not withoout a reason. Hope whoever killed her still burns in the underworlds >.> I am still even today so affected by what the kitsune slayers did..

So beautiful a vixen, alas, there was no one Manly enough for her spirit. Poor dear, she was so beautiful and perfect, yet doomed to the same things and longings that still are in every woman. Finding someone for her to compete with in the mortal world is as rare as a beautiful woman finding a real man. She mastered all knowledge (except for herself) she is my role model in learning.

Im sure whoever harmed her has to have been punished. Hope hes still in pain >.> but probably she just died in this life, and is still alive today astrally. I don't believe someone can be *completely* killed so easily. And if she was a nine-tail, wouldn't that make her strong enough? Anyway yes, she was certainly a darling. Hope so much she is still alive somewhere now, and that she is ok and warm and happy.

Discussion of tamamo-no-mae is to be taken to a different forum; there's a reason she's more often than not viewed as malevolent.

I guess that the forum you'd be talking about would be to discuss about the legends...

Now, on topic:
I wonder if Tamamo-san is still around... And I wonder on how she looks like... Somehow, even after seeing some articles saying bad things about her, I STILL say that she isn't bad and I don't even know why...

Is Tamamo still around?  The question should be whether she even existed in the first place, for legends are often time based on obscured facts of reality or they're something made up entirely.  Even if she was real at one point, I don't think she'd be wanting to stick around too much after her death.  Times are very very different now from when they where back then, if every thing you cared about and loved had been gone for centuries I don't think you'd take enjoyment in hanging around this disgraceful modern era.

Tamamo-no-Mae is particularly fascinating. Simply, I rather wish I could meet her and learn her secrets.
Role model indeed.

he would hang me by the tail if she ever were to find me posting this, though I wouldn't mind. It would be fun having her try to, though she'd never be able to.

Quote
Upon the command to "ask Tamamo-no-mae something you want to know," a young courtesan stepped forth with a question about the orchestra. Tamamo-no-mae answered this too with ease, leaving everyone present speechless with admiration. Afterwards, she revealed her knowledge of how all things came into being, from the musical instruments of the lute and the flute to stationary, fans and carriages, surprising people even more.

then again...

50% is what you got, the other half is what everyone else thinks you have Wink

She was truly a cunning vixen....
I'm thankful she promised never to harm another human after she was freed. I hope a human body is also bound to that promise...though, it may be fun being chased around by such a lovely vixen.

Is she still alive as a spirit though? Was she just killed in one life and went back to the astral afterwords? Hope so much she still lives there happy now. Also, I will try to learn from her from this. She is indeed an example for me.

Perhaps. You don't have a way of knowing unless you yourself passed onto the astral and happened to find her to chat it up.

Hmm...yeah, this should be moved to another forum. Perhaps "Folk lore and Research"...Discussing Tamamo-no-mae in a forum about Inari is like discussing Windows in a forum about Linux, no good-or-evil implication intended.

Hmm... I think a new section for discussing stories of famous kitsunes from the past should be made. Should post about that in the board requests forum..
