 Huh?
Maybe less is more?

What is an instant?
It is the shortest period of time possible, fleeting and ephemeral. The tiny space between past and future that we call present.
And ironically, that is all we will ever witness. The instant called present.
And a present it is.

I was more thinking that people like to boast and garner favor rather than actually seek out their actual tail number and accept when they're told they're wrong by several cross-references.

 Wink
Well, let them boast.
I mean, what is the worst thiing that could happen?
A kit falling for some false advice given by one who would be a nine tail?
 Huh?
Well, I suppose that would probably result in one big letdown for the kit, but on the other hand it would learn not to judge a fox by its tails.

Perhaps those who Know do not Speak?   Huh?

And of course, there are those who would rather not share.

I heard European stories that told of foxes with many tails, and presumed they were the mere fantasies of idiot hunters, and put them aside.  I heard the stories of Kitsuné, and began to realize that their... disposition was akin to mine.  Then I began to think about tails, and 'how many I had'.  Then I thought, and I meditated...

Perhaps each tail was one of the lives I have lived?  But if that were true, then there would be far too many.  Perhaps one has a tail every Thousand Years?  But how old was I?  How can you tell the age of a Soul without Form?  But perhaps it was a metaphor, for the Nine Heavens, perhaps, or the 12 planes of Consciousness, or for my station in This Reality.  But again - does a tail concern where one has been, and where one is going?  Maybe it does, and maybe it doesn't.

But more than this, I think attention should be paid to the experience one has gained from the lives one has lived (including Now), the perspectives one has gained in the ages one has witnessed, the other lands one has traveled in, and Where you came from, What you are now, and Where you are going.  You can see all these things - or instead of seeing these things, you can stare at your a**, chasing your own tails.
Smiley

Of course, I have my own ideas on the matter of Tails.

My 'tail count' is an open question.  But I think there are better ones out there to worry about.   :D

I agree. It really isn't about others, it's about what things mean for yourself. The details of how and why aren't as important as the lesson behind it.

I was looking up as I was walking home and just realized how... huge everything is, everything but us, we're so small. But yet... I could almost feel it, the spark of life, the thread of fate, a bit of electric sizzle in the stars. I was reminded of death, and thereby of life. I felt alive. I think maybe, if I can just feel that for a moment every now and then, anything else that happens to me is O.K.

He perceives himself as one, yes.  And this was more meant as a kit-question, not a kin-question.

This whole board is for Kitsune, not Otherkin or Therians in general.
Edit: Not that they aren't welcome, but just out of place here.

Soo, it looks like we have a nice spread right now. Every tail number has been claimed. A nice bunch of low tailed ones among them too.
 fox_okay
What *surprises* me is that there are so few seven or eight tails here, as compared to the nine tails. Aim for the top, huh?
 :P
Anyway, let's continue.

Even so, as stated before: Any explanations of tails is complete crap, even if derived from mythology since not even mythology is consistent about what tails mean.

(And here's the "mommy" thing again.)

Even with those of more numerous tails, learning is a never ending journey. Still, I don't think the number of tails should be anything more than superficial. It looks nice and everything but it just creates competition and can invoke negative feelings and emotions inside multiple people or other kin. We all can learn from everyone else, whether we are 9 tailed or single tailed. We can continue to learn.

There's a lot of animals and spirits that have one tail (even humans have a tail bone, though no actual tail anymore).

Plus, there's some two-tailed cat or something like that as well (in mythology).

To answer the topic: I think I have two.
