Okay, I'm new here. Really new. Most of these topics are old, and I feel nervous about pulling up old discussions, so... I guess I'll start my own...? (Note to all observers: I gain confidence over time, bear with me while I er and um all over the place.)

Anyway, I know the phantom limb effect is common with tails and ears among kitsune and other ... otherkin... Erm, anyway, when you have more than one tail, do you feel it? Also, what made you come to the conclusion of the amount of tails that you have? You see, I think I would have four, despite only feeling one, based on the fact that for some reason I'm weirdly drawn to the number, and that I have four personalities other than myself who live in my head and talk to me... Okay, that just made me sound nuts. Lemme explain:

For the longest time these four different voices, not audible but kind of like thoughts, have been in my head, and they have their own different personalities that are definitely separate from my own, while my own personality seems to be a strange amalgamation of all four. For the longest time I judged how human I was acting based on their suggestions, because they would suggest to me different ways to react to things in order to better fit in. For example, this one time I was walking to a friends house and this car drove by and the people inside tossed their drink at me. It was hot out and the drink hit me in the back and was icy cold.

I had three reactions immediately suggested to choose from:

1) Curse up a storm.
2) Be depressed, someone just hit me with a drink.
3) Be happy: it was hot and now I'm cooled off.

Even if I don't have my memories from any previous lives, I feel like the personalities might be a representation of what I learned in my past experiences/my tails.

Phantom limbs are common. I feel my ears and tails all the time.

These four beings sound like spirit guides. You have a very strong link to be able to talk to them like this. That's a major advantage .

Heh, considering that got a giggle-snort out of one of them, one known to be a bit rude and blunt anyway, I'd say they don't think of themselves that way. They've been known to even temporarily control my body, but less in a "oh gods I have no control of myself" way and in more of a... well, I'll know it's them because I'll be acting out all of their thoughts, mannerisms, and normal suggestions, but I'm right there with them. I don't know... It's hard to explain.

I guess they feel more like me and less like something from outside me...?

I've acknowledged Evans... like... some 9 years ago, listening to her voice and her advice.
Recently I've even learned to give her control, and sicne then she's been taking over every now and then, much in the way you described.
 
As for phantom limbs...
What I can feel are: Tail (sometimes one, sometimes three), wings (like energy streams of energy wings), sometimes ears, and often two bits in the shape of energy rings, mostly located around my hands.

I remember the warm feeling I had that day when I was on the line between being asleep and awoke I saw that white fox with two tails running happily in the dark (the scene was just like when I saw my first tail and my hears growing) and since then I feel two tails

Eherm... But yes, I guess if you looked at it, it would kind of be like that. Each tail sort of has it's own personality based on the experiences learned during the growth of that tail...? That's the only way I can possibly put it.

Well... I'm having some tail confusion of my OWN here, so I'm not sure I'm going to be much help in that area XD  (That will be the subject of - you guess it - another wall-o-text! XD) 

BUT, what I can say is maybe look into the idea of Multiples, perhaps?  I just recently learned about the idea myself after reading Lupa's "A Field Guide to Otherkin" (AWESOME Christmas gift from my mate XD) and that actually kinda sounds like what was described from those who are "multiple systems," or several souls that inhabit one body.  I also learned that the kitsune Solo and Duo are actually a multiple system too - I've read their writings before, but I always thought that it was two separate people and had no idea of multiples. o.0

yeah but you cant rule out the fact that it could be a previous life as well, so far from what jikt is explaining is very common to have that stuff happen, and just cause a previous life can come out and take control doesnt mean you have to remember that life, Ive had a few lives come out and be like 'who the fuck am I?" but still come out and act as they would in their past life (though after those cases I always dive in to find out who they were though some still allude me 0_o)

as for tails and their own personality, I think its more of a if you pay attention case, cause in my case I barely notice them (mostly cause Im to busy to) but when I do I feel all nice and warm and fuzzy with them and wanna hug them but I never delved into wether they have a speaking voice or not probably cause they are a part of me and I have always seen me as me, I dont know its hard to explain, all I know is its not like I could have a whole speaking conversation with them its more of a 'feeling' conversation like I can 'feel them and their feelings' but there's no 'speaking' voice so to speak (yes pun was intentional)  but yeah really hard to explain~

It's incredibly hard to explain... but I still feel like each tail kind of has their own experiences and that's where the other personalities come from... Like...

Gin (that's what I call her), is sort of motherly and warm, caring, sweet, kind... I imagine I gained this tail back when I was still a kit living with my mother. It would make sense, because those are the experiences that I would've learned during that time.

Vyx, she's... angry, violent, hyper-sexualized, vindictive, cruel... She's the kind of personality you'd expect from someone who was a kitsune and not afraid to be one, laughing at humans for being weaker.

Raine is the only male, oddly enough. He's... confident, a flirt, strong willed, unafraid.

And the personality that I got during this lifetime, the personality that wasn't there before, is Tyr. She's shy, subdued, afraid... everything someone who had been abused their whole lives would be. She's definitely the way someone who grew up in this life time I've had would be like.

The topic seems a bit of a jumble, and Feeling your tails? may have since addressed some of it. I can't say if one might correlate differing personas with each tail. It does sound less common at least.

In my own experience I have found that my mind can be divided up into various 'aspects' which I can either assume the perspectives of or communicate with internally. Some are stronger or more dominant than others. Some are laid back or manipulative. Some are soft spoken, careful, or in your face about things. Their tactics and philosophies differ and show me many of my options when I can afford to listen. This kind of sounds like what you were talking about, though of course something like this would be very personal and the forms and number of variances could be quite different.

Despite this I've never tried to correlate them with tails. My numbers have been less consistent and so a connection could not be drawn. There are more of them than I have tails and they sometimes blend together or trade places as seems appropriate for the task at hand. I haven't found any practical use for tails in a human body and so I usual keep them out of sight and out of mind.

Communicating with and utilizing the varied talents of my 'aspects' is something I think I should do more often. Originally I discovered them through role-playing back in 2003 or so. But I feel like I'm beginning to grow out of that phase of my life and am looking to explore and express them through other means. Meditation and real-life applications being the most likely candidates. I study them to learn things about myself and what issues I need to address. As far as I can tell they are the manifestations of my own imaginings. So they probably do a fair job of painting a picture of what I look like on the inside; good for introspection.

I would say I was worried about derailing the thread, but as far as I can tell something like this was the primary focus of discussion before. Pardon me if I am mistaken.
